A little while ago Computerworld published an interview with Adam Messinger, VP of Development for Fusion Middleware at Oracle, that I wanted to make sure you’re aware of.
In the interview, Adam talks about Java ME in the mobile space, upcoming JSRs and enhancements, Java on embedded devices, Java EE 7 coming this summer, and more.
Cheers,
– Terrence

Thanks for sharing,
its nice to hear that JavaME is far from dead, this is true for feature phones, but it isn’t true on smartphones.
At the moment the only smartphone that support JavaME is Symbian that is fading out, blackberry is embracing Android (you can see it with the latest products running QNX), so JavaME is out from the smartphone market.
I hope that things will change fast or JavaME will be only a technology that runs on third wolrd phones (I can buy an Android smartphone for 99€).
I love JavaME and I will continue to support it until an SDK is able to run on my computer, RIM is actually my best sellings platform, I hope that you will give RIM and other manufacturers more meat for the future.
I wish you all the best.

Sorry to say but ME is dead! It was dead long ago, it’s not Oracles fault this time. Sun did not hear the shot (they talked about midp3 for years and even as it was already out dated) or heard it too late (LWUIT came too late). Oracle doesn’t want to reinvent it and thats the coffin nail!
Symbian does not continue ME anymore, BlackBerry is going to QNX and will only have a “player” for old-style BB-ME apps and not even preinstalled. There is no one left!
Stop talking about feature phones! In a few years todays smartphones will be the new feature phone! And they don’t need the limited Java ME!
ME developers are like Cobol developers now, there a jobs out there and they will be there for quite some time but there won’t be any new jobs, any new projects anymore. ME is dead but might be zombie-walking for a while but it’s still already dead
