I totally forgot to post this announcement by Gemalto and Qualcomm from CES. Yes, it’s a few weeks old, but it has not lost any of its relevance. Quite the opposite … with the Java ME 8 release coming up soon, the momentum is building:
“Gemalto launches next generation M2M product range adding Oracle Java ME 8 solutions capability based on chipsets from Qualcomm Technologies”
For more information, see the Gemalto press release.
Cheers,

Terrence, Gemalto announced support for ME 8 but it seems they still aren’t anywhere near releasing the chip. See here for further details:

Hi Roy,
Sorry, I cannot comment on behalf of Gemalto on their ME 8 roadmap – you would need to discuss with them directly.
As for your statement in the forum “What I would like to do is run OpenHAB 2 on an embedded platform that supports Java ME 8.” – can you please contact me directly at terrence.barr (at oracle.com) to discuss?
Best,
— Terrence
